I have some seriously mixed emotions about this particular situation for the following reasons:
- If all goes well the application by PetroSA to the NNPC will be a positive one, which will hopefully result in a rapid drop in petrol prices. The knock on effect of this will be fantastic...if all goes well of course. Lower costs for food and supplies will definitely make our lives easier. However, knowing how corrupt these types of situations can get, it will be a miracle if the prices go down at all.
- There is a worry that the NNCP could be as dodgy as the drug lords that parade the South Africa streets at night.
- If this doesn't work out, and the NNCP refuse to work with PetroSA, it will place us in a pretty crappy situation. You think the price of petrol is high now, wait until the end of June. The sanctions that have been put in place in Iran are putting more and more pressure on SA to find alternative oil resources.
